A Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based physician with nearly a decade of experience as a hospitalist, Naval Parikh, MD, functions as NAPA Research’s clinical site coordinator. Before he began his medical career, Dr. Naval Parikh received his doctor of medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).

Recently recognized on Forbes’ list of America’s 2018 Best Employers for Diversity, the MUSC is committed to achieving an environment of mutual respect, understanding, and awareness through its diversity and inclusion efforts. In addition to making everyone at the institution feel valued, fostering this type of environment promotes a healthy bottom line, as stated by several studies and prominent leaders. Diversity also breeds innovation, which is particularly integral to good healthcare.
Backing up its claims as a school that promotes and fosters diversity and inclusion, the MUSC, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges, is in the 97th and 95th percentile, respectively, for educational institutions with the most African-American graduates and that adequately prepare physicians to treat patients from varying backgrounds.
Furthermore, first-year students, as well as faculty and staff, are required to take part in diversity and inclusion training. Every leader at MUSC Health, for instance, has completed four or more hours of relevant instruction in the past year. The MUSC has also supported projects to help recruit students from minority populations into STEM careers, and in 2016, it was named to The Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Index report.
