An accomplished internist in Florida, Naval Parikh, MD, serves as a clinical site coordinator for NAPA Research. Naval Parikh, MD, also practices medicine with SortinoMD in Boca Raton. Among the practice areas of SortinoMD is hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
Also referred to as hormone therapy and menopausal hormone therapy, HRT can relieve hot flashes, sweating, and other menopausal symptoms. Depending on the type of HRT, patients receive doses of estrogen, progesterone, and/or testosterone. These hormones are added to the body either via the bloodstream at various areas of the body, or through a vaginal tablet, vaginal cream, or other localized method that treats specific body areas.
Assuming women are healthy, they are good candidates for HRT. Women deemed to have the lowest risk of breast cancer, stroke, blood clots, and other related conditions begin HRT either within 10 years of menopause or before the age of 60. HRT is also a good treatment option for women who stopped having periods or lost ovarian function prior to age 40 and/or patients who are not benefiting from other menopause treatments.
